Fatshark gave us a peek at more of Warhammer 40,000 Darktide at Summer Game Fest, with a mix of cinematics and in-game footage showing off more coop shooting and brawling action in the grim darkness of the far future.
As misfits, mutants, and rejects in the service of the Inquisition, players will pit themselves against the lost and the damned in a last ditch effort to save Tertium Hive from the dark tide of Chaos. The trailer showcased the mix of Vermintide-style melee and shooting combat as a kill-team of players descend into the depths of a power plant to save it from catastrophic meltdown.
If you loved Vermintide’s in your face first-person melee combat, then you’re going to get a gore-spattered serving of the same, spiced up with set dressing from the dystopian future of Warhammer 40k. Players will be able to rip and tear with chainswords, flatten foes with a thunder hammer, or unleash fusillades with lasguns and more exotic energy weapons.
Observant Warhammer lorehounds will get a kick out of some of the character archetypes showcased in the trailer, with a playable Ogryn mutant, some sort tech-priest, a hammer-wielding sister, a tacticool guardsman, and psychic agent all on display.
Fatshark has played up Darktide’s character customization options, with players able to select from a range of voice, appearance, and gear options, so it will be interesting to see the variety of character classes you can pick and choose from and the degree you can tinker with them in the game.
Warhammer 40,000: Darktide is a coop action-brawler from Fatshark, the makers of the Warhammer: Vermintide games, featuring writing from franchise veterans Dan Abnett and Matt Ward, and a soundtrack by Jesper Kyd.
