Annapurna Interactive will be launching the very intriguing, head-turning time loop thriller Twelve Minutes on Game Pass on August 19. Microsoft made the announcement at the Xbox and Bethesda Games Showcase. It will be playable via the Pass on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and Windows PCs.
Twelve Minutes has been in development by Luis Antonio for several years now. It was first shown at PAX East back in 2015. The Portuguese developer has been rather meticulous about the writing and design of his game. In 2019, Antonio spoke to GamesIndustry.Biz about the creative challenges the game presented.
“A book has a last page, and in a movie after two hours you get the end credits,” Antonio said. “In the medium of games, we can do a little bit more than that. You’ll reach a satisfactory conclusion to your experience in six to eight hours, but I’m trying hard to make something that’s not an ending as we’re used to having them. My question was, how does an endless experience conclude, rather than end?”
In the years since, the game has received a visual upgrade and added a small cast of Hollywood talent to voice the characters, presumably thanks to the support of publisher Annapurna Interactive. James McAvoy (Filth, Atonement) and Daisy Ridley (Star Wars, Murder on the Orient Express) play the unnamed main character and his wife, while Willem Dafoe (Spider-Man, At Eternity’s Gate) plays an intruder.
I’m looking forward to exploring the twists and turns of my choices when I play Twelve Minutes on Game Pass in August.
