The Stanley Parable Ultra Deluxe gets a release date at last

After a series of delays stretching all the way back to its announcement at the 2018 Game Awards, the mind-warping adventure The Stanley Parable Ultra Deluxe finally has a release date.

Developed by Galactic Cafe and Crows Crows Crows, The Stanley Parable Ultra Deluxe is an expanded edition of the 2013 standout PC hit and it’s coming April 27 to PC, Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S.

The Stanley Parable began as a free mod for Half-Life 2 by Davey Wreden, released in June 2011. Together with William Pugh, they later released a stand-alone version of the game using the Source Engine under the Galactic Cafe studio name and continued developing it into a full release that went out on Steam through the platform’s now retired Greenlight service on October 2013. Development on Ultra Deluxe was held back by the global pandemic, leading to development delays all throughout 2021.

If you’ve not heard of the Stanley Parable before, it’s a first-person interactive comedy drama thriller in which you play Stanley, the silent protagonist in an adventure narrated by some unseen presence, delightfully voiced by British actor Kevan Brighting. As you take actions, each moment is consistently narrated, even when you diverge from what the narrator expects of you. If it’s not obvious enough, Stanley can get into some shenanigans while you get some commentary of the world around you.

For those who have played the older games, they can expect the Ultra Deluxe version to feature new story content, new choices and most enticingly enough, new secrets. There’ll be new twists and turns and the developers have also hinted at a few cryptic things in the following days leading up to the release date announcement.

“You will play as Stanley, and you will not play as Stanley. You will make a choice, and you will have your choices taken from you,” writes Crows Crows Crows in a cryptic press release. “The game will end, the game will never end. Contradiction follows contradiction, the rules of how games should work are broken, then broken again. You are not here to win. The Stanley Parable is a game that plays you.”

“In The Stanley Parable Ultra Deluxe, everything you remember has been recreated, yet it’s different somehow. We’ve been here before, haven’t we? Is Stanley still the same as he was back then? Or is it you who has changed?”

Once again. The Stanley Parable Ultra Deluxe comes out on April 27, 2022 for PC, Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S.
