The development staff for STALKER 2: Heart of Chornobyl is reportedly moving to the Czech Republic to finish the game.
STALKER 2 is being developed by GSC Game World, a studio currently based in Kyiv, Ukraine’s capital. Development has been put on hold for the safety of the staff and their family members with regards to Russia’s violent invasion.
According to Czech journalist Pavel Dobrovsky and news website Vortex, GSC Game World is looking to relocate development to the Czech Republic, possibly in Prague, due to these circumstances. There development will continue on the much anticipated survival horror shooter, which was originally set for release in April of this year but has been understandably delayed to December.
The team is looking to find ways of finishing STALKER 2 in the Czech Republic by getting local developers who can help GSC with the transition. Petr Kolar of Ashborne Games, which is based in Brno in the Czech Republic, has revealed to Vortex that he has been in contact with GSC developers about the possibility of moving. Jan Kavan of Czech studio CBD Software has also confirmed that he has provided GSC’s business development manager some advice on how to start a company in the Czech Republic.
The chairman of the Association of Czech Game Developers, Pavel Barák, has confirmed that GSC Game World was making enquiries about relocating from Kyiv. “I can confirm that the Association was approached by GSC studio early last week saying they were looking at the Czech Republic and surrounding countries,” Barák said. “They needed help from us on legal and employment matters.”
GSC Game World has yet to confirm the move itself. Last week, GSC Game World quietly changed the spelling of its game to reflect the Ukrainian spelling of the word. The change was made from “Chernobyl” to “Chornobyl”. The change reportedly happened on the March 14 and was first spotted on Steam. The gameplay trailer on YouTube also also been updated to reflect the title change.
STALKER 2 Heart of Chornobyl is now slated for release on Xbox Series consoles on December 8, 2022. It is already available for pre-order on the Microsoft Store.
