An upcoming update to Sea of Thieves that will, among other things, add new Captaincy features has been delayed from its original promised July launch date.
Last month, Sea of Thieves developer Rare released a musical trailer for their next Season of the open world online pirate game. But the update has hit a small snag and will need to be delayed until the 4th of August, a fortnight from the previous release date.
The news comes via the Sea of Thieves’ news blog where Joe Neate, the game’s executive producer, gives us the rundown of why there’s a two week delay for the next season.
“As we started getting closer to the originally stated release date, it became apparent that things were coming in hotter than we liked,” reads the post. “There was a real risk of not delivering to the quality and polish we expect, as well as putting undue pressure across the team to get it all over the line. Subsequently, we have made the decision to shift the release date back slightly to August 4th.”
That said, the Captaincy update for Sea of Thieves has been delayed so the developers could have enough time to polish and tweak things that might still need work as well as avoid crunch for those still working to hit a deadline. Neate promises the upcoming new season will be a good one despite how long Season 6 has gone on now.
