Sarah Schachner no longer writing music for Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2

Sarah Schachner has revealed that she will no longer be working on the music for Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 or be involved with the release of the soundtrack.

Sarah Schachner is a prolific composer of high profile video games, including Call of Duty Infinite Warfare, Assassin’s Creed Origins, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla and 2019’s Call of Duty Modern Warfare. Schachner has also provided music outside of videogames, with her most recent work being the soundtrack to the 2022 action horror film Prey – not to be confused with one of the best horror games on Xbox Game Pass.

Schachner cites the “increasingly challenging” work dynamic with the Modern Warfare 2’s audio director, Stephen Miller. Although Schachner did not name Miller, any employee listing of Modern Warfare 2 lead studio Infinity Ward identifies him as the in-house audio director.

“I am sad to say I can no longer continue to compose music for Modern Warfare 2/Warzone. Over the past couple of months the working dynamic with the audio director has become increasingly challenging and I don’t see any path forward,” tweeted Schachner, as an announcement for her departure.

Prior to her departure, fans have been asking about the release of Modern Warfare 2’s soundtrack release through Twitter, and even then fans didn’t get exactly what they were hoping for.

“While I don’t have any control over how the music is presented in-game,” Schachner continued, “what will be released on the soundtrack is not my artistic intent in regards to mixing and mastering. Mike Dean was a part of the creative vision for the album as well as mixer Frank Wolf. We have soundtrack masters in hand from Mike which unfortunately you will never get to hear.”

Mike Dean is a high profile record producer who’s worked with famous artists like Beyoncé, The Weeknd and Megan Thee Stallion; to name a few. Schachner also acknowledged the soundtrack’s featured performances from the likes of Baseck, Brain Mantia and M. B Gordy. “I’m truly appreciative of the outreach so far and I feel a responsibility to the fans to remain authentic in my approach with the game and its sound which I have been a part of creating for many years.”

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is now available on all major platforms such as Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S.
