Psychonauts 2 release date has finally been given, and the highly anticipated sequel to the Double Fine cult classic arrives August 25 for Windows PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X and of course, on Xbox Game Pass.
The announcement was made at the Xbox and Bethesda Games Showcase, though a news release clarified that the game will still be coming to Mac OS, Linux and PlayStation consoles in the future. We’ve seen a lot of footage of the game over the past few months, but that didn’t stop Double Fine Productions from issuing a brand new trailer.
In Psychonauts 2 you play Raz, an acrobat and young psychic who has realized his dream of joining the Psychonauts, apparently a world famous espionage organization that uses psychic powers to power their spycraft. Or psycraft, if you will.
The sequel was first announced at the 2015 Game Awards for crowdfunding on Fig, where it went on to surpass its $3 million dollar funding objective. Since then, Double Fine has delayed the game multiple times. While previously set for 2019, the studio’s acquisition by Microsoft allowed them to expand the game’s scope and add in previously cut boss battles. It was then delayed again from a 2020 release.
Once again, Psychonauts 2 release date is August 25, 2021 for Windows 10 PC, Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S as well as on Xbox Game Pass. It will also be available as a separate purchase and will also launch on Steam.
