Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis has a global launch date

Sega announced that Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis has a global launch date. It’s June 9, which is next Wednesday. The massive expansion marks ten years of PSO2 and the twentieth anniversary of Phantasy Star Online. The launch date follows the closed beta test that was held last month.

“On June 9th we will be launching globally, opening up the gateway to the brand new world of Halpha for ARKS across the planet,” said Fred White from PSO2 Team Global. “The date marks not only a monumental game launch, but also the continuance of storyline in the long-beloved Phantasy Star series. We can’t wait to enter this new chapter together with players.”

The free-to-play online action RPG’s core narrative advances by about a thousand years in New Genesis, a full millennia after those events that led up to the battle of Oracle. Phantasy Start Online 2: New Genesis will feature fully localized text and voiceover in English and will have content parity with the Japanese servers.

“We are working very hard to offer players unparalleled character customisation, limitless adventure and the best action online RPG available on the Xbox One or PC,” said Sega. “One of [our goals] is to create the ultimate PSO2 in which the time-tested elements are kept intact, while the game design, gameplay and graphics engine will be completely redesigned and reborn in all aspects.”

Other features being added to Phantasy Star Online 2 via New Genesis include enhanced character models, high-speed transitions (“no loading screens,” promises the press release) and a redesigned graphics engine that will let you “witness lush environments, amazingly detailed player characters, and monstrous foes in razor-sharp resolution. See the world as you’ve never seen it before.”

The new expansions will also feature inter-operable connectivity with the original Phantasy Star Online 2, letting you move easily in-game between the expansions and the original release base. Cross-platform play will let PC and Xbox One players take to the open world together side by side. It is also slated to receive support and possibly enhancements for Xbox Series X|S.
