The Persona series is the wildest new addition to the Game Pass library. Persona 3 Portable, Persona 4 Golden and Persona 5 Royal are all coming to Xbox consoles for the first time via the subscription service.
The announcement was made today at the Xbox and Bethesda Games showcase. It’s a groundbreaking move for the franchise, which has historically made its home exclusively on PlayStation devices – though Persona 4 Golden did make its way to Steam in 2020.
The roll out begins with Persona 5 Royal, which arrives in Game Pass on October this year. Persona 3 Portable and Persona 4 Golden will debut next year in 2023. These additions will be certainly exciting for newcomers to the franchise. It also signals Microsoft’s ongoing interest in building out its selection of JRPGs on their platform.
Last year, Microsoft struck a deal to have the entire Yakuza series on Game Pass, from Yakuza 3 to 6 as well as the ‘remakes’ Yakuza Kiwami and Yakuza Kiwami 2 and the prequel Yakuza 0. They later added the seventh installment of the open-world crime drama, Yakuza: Like A Dragon. Most of the games left the service at the end of 2021.
It’s worth noting that the version of Persona 3 coming to Game Pass, Persona 3 Portable is the one that has an alternate female protagonist that was released in 2009 and not Persona 3 FES, the 2007 ‘director’s cut’ that featured an epilogue section that takes place some time after the events of the main story.
