Gameplay for Hollow Knight Silksong, the long-awaited sequel to Team Cherry’s Hollow Knight, was finally revealed at the Xbox and Bethesda Games Showcase. An extended trailer was shown and the game was confirmed to be coming to Game Pass as a day one launch.
Hollow Knight Silksong follows up 2017’s Hollow Knight, a side-scrolling, Dark Souls-inspired, Metroidvania set in the underground where an old bug race used to live. Silksong follows Hornet, a returning character from the first game that was both a friend and a foe to the Knight in the original game.
Hollow Knight Silksong was originally a stretch goal reward for the original Hollow Knight crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter. The plan was for Silksong to be an add-on that makes Hornet playable. But as the project took a life of its own and grew larger, the decision was made to make it its own game.
“Almost from the very start, Hornet’s adventure was intended to take place in a new land, but as we dove in, it quickly became too large and too unique to stay a DLC, as initially planned,” read a blog post from Team Cherry back in 2019.
Fans of the first Hollow Knight game have been eagerly waiting for the sequel to their beloved game that was teased back in February of 2019. Unfortunately, development progress of the game may have been hampered by the global pandemic which resulted in a long delay with very little update from Team Cherry.
It’s been three years since any news of Hollow Knight Silksong and the gameplay trailer released today was the first news in a long time. No release date window was specified in the trailer but fans can rest easy today knowing that Silksong will be coming to Game Pass. At the Showcase, Xbox’s Sarah Bond said that all the games presented will be releasing within the next 12 months, guaranteeing we will be seeing Hollow Knight Silksong sooner than later. within at least the next 12 months.
