Square Enix has a launch trailer out for Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy and boy are we so excited. The trailer kickstarts the party early with much spectacle and gusto, as well as a quick three second preview of the different costumes and outfits you can wear, suggesting plenty of unlockable cosmetic pieces.
A promise of no microtransactions accompanied the announcement and reveal of Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy at E3 this year, but that’s something more of an “I’ll believe it when I see it” thing, seeing as how Square’s other Marvel game, the controversial Marvel’s Avengers, went back on its word regarding paid gameplay advantages.
All that being said, the launch trailer does a fantastic job at showing how pretty the game is. Each character in combat shows vibrant colors and beautiful movements that I’m assuming to be special moves the crew will be able to do.
Star-Lord just looks absolutely cool with his rocket boots, shooting foes with his Quad Blaster. Gamora zipping in the air throughout the battlefield slashing the poor mooks that dared cross her path, to Rocket and Groot just absolutely pummeling some hapless minion and of course, Drax the Destroyer being ordered to well, destroy.
Speaking of “crews,” the trailer’s music also rocks to the tune of Motley Crue’s — editor groans — easily excitable Kickstart My Heart, and it just makes me want to play the game more now! The soundtrack for this game looks like an absolute banger and an obvious nod to the movies from the looks of it. But that’s not all, the game will be full of amazing 80s songs that’ll play during your misadventures!
In addition to “Kickstart My Heart,” and as seen in the reveal trailer, Bonnie Tyler’s “Holding Out for a Hero,” Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy follows another recent Square Enix release, Life is Strange: True Colors in featuring a wide selection of licensed tracks. But instead of soothing electropop and hipster antifolk, you get classics like Culture Club’s “I’ll Tumble 4 Ya,” Twisted Sister’s “We’re Not Gonna Take It” and Tears for Fears’ “Everybody Wants To Rule The World.”
The trailer comes to an end with a few quick previews of folks you’ll meet along the way as you play the game including Mantis the Empath and Cosmo the spacedog, with the last shot ending with a reveal of what looks to be Adam Warlock!
There’s only a couple of weeks left until Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy has its launch on 26th of October. It’ll be available for purchase from the Microsoft Store for Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S.
