An enhanced version of GoldenEye 007 is coming to Game Pass

In a not all that surprising twist, Rare has announced that the legendary classic GoldenEye 007 is returning soon to modern consoles along with a day one launch on Xbox Game Pass.

The announcement was made via the latest Nintendo Direct as part of the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack’s ports coming to the hybr id console. The Nintendo Switch version appears to be a direct port from the original Nintendo64 with online multiplayer capabilities.

However, in a rather sneaky way, Rare announced that GoldenEye 007 would also be coming to Xbox consoles through Xbox Game Pass as a remaster with its own improvements; like twin stick support, 16:9 resolution up to 4K UHD, FPS boosts and local splitscreen multiplayer.

“The original experience has been updated with improved control options (including dual analogue stick support), native 16:9 resolution up to 4K Ultra HD (where supported), a consistent refresh rate and a full complement of achievements to unlock.”

First look at the GoldenEye 007 Remaster

While this is all exciting news, I can’t help but feel like the game was split up between Nintendo and Xbox because all the features mentioned above could have been set up to be within one grand remaster. But ultimately speaking, getting a modern port of a beloved classic should suffice for now as fans have been asking for GoldenEye 007 to be brought back to modern consoles for quite some time now.

No release date has been mentioned for both versions unfortunately, so it seems like we’ll have to be just a little bit more patient until we can play as James Bond (or Oddjob).
