Xbox is enabling FPS Boost on 37 games today, bringing the total of games with enhanced framerates well beyond a hundred. The announcement was made at the Xbox 20th anniversary event.
Among the titles getting FPS Boost include the entire Gears of War franchise, the original Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry 3, and Vandal Hearts: Flames of Judgment, the latter of which seems inexplicable to me if only because I didn’t know people were clamoring for better framerates for that one.
FPS Boost is designed to make existing games run better on Xbox Series X and Series S consoles, and a special team within Xbox works to make sure this can be done with minimal involvement from external publishers. Simply put, it’s an initiative that sees Microsoft doing the work to make old games output a little slicker.
Other games getting the FPS Boost treatment today include 11 new additions to the Xbox backward compatibility library such as Binary Domain and Nier all doubling their original frame rates up to 60fps.
