Destiny 2 Season 19 will buff and nerf a bunch of Exotics

Bungie has just released a huge TWAB (Bungie’s weekly blog), and it includes a lot of info about some upcoming changes to Exotics upon the arrival of Season 19 to Destiny 2.

There’s a lot to look forward to, like the collaboration event with Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed franchise and the return of some old Destiny 1 Iron Banner armor sets. But cosmetics aside, the upcoming changes to Exotic weapons are exactly what a lot of people have been asking for. Bungie’s looked at some of the least used Exotics of Destiny 2 and is hoping to change them up in Season 19.

Destiny 2 Season 19 Exotics
20 least used Exotic Weapons in Destiny 2 currently

“We identified a handful of weapons that we felt needed a substantial change to really hit the level of ‘exoticness’ that we expect from Destiny 2 Exotics.”

To start off, some Exotic weapons are getting Reworks to their perks. For Exotic weapons that use The Fundamentals perk (like the Borealis, Hard Light and Dead Messenger) they will gain additional stats per element that’s used.

Those stats being added are:

  • Arc: +25 handling and +5 range.
  • Solar: +35 reload speed and +20 airborne effectiveness.
  • Void: +20 stability and +10 aim assist.

Additionally, Borealis’ Ionic Return perk is getting tweaked, now when Borealis breaks a matched shield, it will now refill the magazine from reserves and allows your next 5 shots to deal increased damage.

Next up is the Jade Rabbit. It’s already a strong scout rifle but the Exotic perk leaves a lot to be desired. For its changes, it will now return a round to the magazine when you quickly land 3 crits. This will then increase the next body shot you land and you can stack up to 3 powerful body shots. The bonus damage goes away when you reload.

As far as nerfs go, a handful of popular Exotic weapons are getting hit due to how effective they are as well as how easy it is to abuse their raw power in the current sandbox.

  • Arbalest’s body shot damage has been reduced to match Lorentz Driver’s.
  • Witherhoard’s Taken pool duration will be lowered to 4.5s from 7.5s.
  • Divinity’s weakening debuff will be reduced to a 15% weakening debuff from 30% one.
  • Gjallarhorn’s primary rocket impact and detonation damage has been reduced by 25%

Lastly, the Forerunner’s base damage has been reduced to 37 from 40 and its crit damage to 67 from 72. However, Bungie wants to see players get more usage of the Halo inspired sidearm in PVE content so they’re also giving it a buff. To start off, it will get an increase to its crit damage by 30%. The Forerunner Catalyst perk The Rock will also get a 60% damage increase in PVE content. Activating The Rock will also need less ammo than before, from 6 to 4. And finally, The Rock will get increased damage at the outer edge of its blast radius from 0% to 20%.

The Forerunner

For Buffs, Bungie picked out some of the most unused Exotics in the game to tweak as well as some choice picks that they felt strongly about.

First off, exotics that get the Full Auto setting through perks or catalysts will get new perks because a new Full Auto Trigger System will be added to the game soon.

Those affected are as follows:

  • No Time to Explain will get Feeding Frenzy
  • Traveler’s Chosen will get Surplus and Osmosis
  • Vigilance Wing will get Ensemble

Dead Man’s Tale will get increased body shot damage from 46 to 54 and reduced crit damage from 81 to 80. DMT will also now prefer to hit crits over body shots when hip firing instead of body shots if both targets are within the precision aim cone.

  • D.A.R.C.I. will now Jolt targets affected by Personal Assistant and its airborne effectiveness stat has been boosted to 80.
  • Whisper of the Worm’s airborne effectiveness stat has also been raised to 80.
  • Wish-Ender’s bonus damage vs Witherhoard-blighted targets has been increased to * 25% from 15%.
  • The Prospector gains the Chain Reaction perk.
  • The Fourth Horseman’s recoil has been reduced by 50%
  • Merciless’ decreased charge time on hit will now reset on a 5s timer. Refresh when hits occur.
  • Rat King’s perk activation radius has been increased to 20m from 15m.
  • Legend of Acrius’ movement penalties have been removed
  • Bastion’s spread angle has been reduced by 6%
  • Quicksilver Storm will get an increase in PvP maximum grenade damage from 80 to 120; additionally the grenade’s explosion radius will be increased to 4m from 3m. The rocket damage type will be changed from Arc to Kinetic.
  • Grand Overture’s missile damage will be increased by 50%
  • Xenophage will now deal roughly half of its damage as impact damage and the rest as detonation damage; additionally it’s overall damage will be increased by 5%
  • Coldheart’s Ionic Trace generation cooldown will be reduced to 2s from 3.5s and picking up an Ionic Trace will improve its ramp up time towards getting max damage.

Season 19 of Destiny 2 will be the last big update to Exotics and activities until it receives its next expansion, Lightfall. Lightfall will launch February 28, 2023.
