Studio Asobo has finally announced A Plague Tale Requiem’s release date, during a special showcase broadcast earlier today. A Plague Tale Requiem will be releasing on October 18, 2022. The game is exclusive to new gen consoles such as the Xbox Series X and S and will also be launching day one on Game Pass.
A Plague Tale Requiem is the sequel to the critically acclaimed A Plague Tale Innocence and picks up directly where it left off. Amicia de la Rune and her younger brother Hugo continue to struggle for survival in a dangerous world as they try to outrun agents of the Inquisition and find a treatment for Hugo’s reawakened powers.
After some already strong presentations during Not E3 at the Tribeca Games Festival and at the Xbox and Bethesda Games Showcase, the short broadcast delivered an extended look at the sequel’s gameplay, which expands and deepens the mechanics from 2019’s A Plague Tale Innocence.
Amicia’s stealth combat abilities have been upgraded giving her greater fluidity. While she’s nowhere near the resilient action murderer of other games, she no longer relies exclusively on her sling to takedown enemies and broken stealth isn’t always a guaranteed fail state.
Meanwhile, Hugo’s powers have evolved, giving him the ability to “smell” the blood of nearby individuals. This manifests as a typical “x-ray vision” ability like the Detective Vision of the Arkham games or Eagle Vision from Assassin’s Creed. It’s a meaningful quality of life feature that improves situational awareness which was always troublesome in Innocence.
The gameplay footage ends with the player as Hugo unleashing a torrent of rats to swarm enemies and devour them. It’s unclear whether sequences like this will exclusively be scripted events, or if this will be some kind of rechargeable ability available later in the game.
Once again, A Plague Tale Requiem has a release date of October 18. It launches for PC and new gen consoles such as the Xbox Series X and S. The game will also be launching day one on Game Pass.
